[Bucktown Bird's Nest Ribbon Cutting]
[00:00:06]
WE ARE HERE AT THE RIBBON CUTTING FOR THE BIRD'S NEST LEARNING PAVILION, WHICH IS REALLY THE VISION OF DISTRICT FIVE, COUNCILMAN JENNIFER VAN REIN.
AND THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE NEW STRUCTURE THAT CLASSROOMS CAN HAVE OUT HERE AND TEACHERS CAN BRING THEIR KIDS OUT HERE TO LEARN.
BUCKTOWN HARBOR IS REALLY ABOUT BRINGING US BACK TO THE LAKE TO ENJOY THIS SPACE TOGETHER.
WE FIRST BUILT THE BOARDWALK SO YOU COULD STROLL OUT HERE MORNING AND EVENING.
UM, WE BUILT SOME NEW SHELTERS.
NOW THIS IS THE CELEBRATION OF THE OPENING OF THE BIRD'S NEST.
IT'S AN OUTDOOR CLASSROOM WHERE, UM, KIDS AND ADULTS CAN GO LEARN ABOUT OUR ENVIRONMENT, SEE IT FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE.
AND I THINK THE WHIMSICAL TREE NATURE OF THIS REALLY IS SOMETHING THAT GRABS PEOPLE AND I HOPE SPARKS THEIR IMAGINATION TO COME OUT AND ENJOY HERE.
THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT ARE GONNA MAKE YOUNG FAMILIES MOVE INTO JEFFERSON PARISH AND STAY HERE.
WHAT WE NEED TO DO IS TO HAVE THINGS LIKE THIS THAT BRING PEOPLE TO OTHER SIDE, TO TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AT IT AND REALIZE THAT IT IS AN AMAZING RESOURCE.
IT REALLY IS A PASSION PROJECT.
WHEN I CROSS THIS LEVEE AND, AND SAY, WOW, AT THE SITE OF WHAT'S COMING TO LIFE AND WHAT'S TO COME WITH THE KAYAK AND CANOE LAUNCH, THIS WHOLE AREA WAS JUST KIND OF A BLANK CANVAS AND WE WERE JUST TRYING TO GET THE BOAT SLIPS GOING.
SO IT REALLY IS INCREDIBLE FOR ME TO BE HERE TODAY AND JUST SEE HOW FAR THIS HAS COME THROUGH THE COUNCIL WOMAN'S VISION.
AND THEN COUNCILMAN HANS BURG WILL CONTINUE TO TAKE THAT BALL FURTHER DOWN THE FIELD.
WE'RE UP HERE DURING THE DAY AND, AND IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY.
IT'S ALWAYS GOT A GREAT BREEZE OUT HERE BY THE LAKE.
BUT AT NIGHTTIME WE HAVE, UH, LED LIGHTS OUT HERE.
THIS IS GONNA BE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND COME OUT HERE AT NIGHT AND TAKE A LOOK AT IT.
IT'S GONNA BE ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL.
