[AED Defibrillator Donation] [00:00:04] HI, THIS IS PARISH PRESIDENT CYNTHIA LEE SHANG. I AM HERE AT THE RE LAO CENTER. WE JUST GOT FINISHED AN INCREDIBLE TRAINING WITH OUR RECREATION DEPARTMENT ON THE NEW A E D MACHINES THAT THE SAINTS HAVE DONATED TO US SINCE 2020. WE TOOK UNDER AN INITIATIVE TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERY PLAYGROUND HAS AN A E D MACHINE, AND WITH THIS NEW DONATION, WE'RE GONNA BE ABLE TO DOUBLE UP OR EVEN TRIPLE AT SOME OF OUR LARGER PLAYGROUNDS, AND ALSO MAKE SURE THAT ALL OF OUR TRAVEL TEAMS WILL TAKE A MACHINE WITH THEM WHEN THEY GO OUT OF STATE TO COMPETE. MS. GAIL BENSON'S VIEWED THE SITUATION THAT OCCURRED ON THE NFL GAME A COUPLE WEEKS BACK AND RECOGNIZED THE VALUE AND IMPORTANCE OF HAVING DEFIBRILLATORS READILY AVAILABLE FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE, OF OUR COMMUNITY HERE IN JEFFERSON PARISH. AND SHE STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE AND DONATED DEVICES TO THE JEFFERSON PARISH RECREATION DEPARTMENT TO PROTECT THE YOUTH OF OUR COMMUNITY. WE GOT THE CALL FROM, UH, THE SAINTS REGARDING MS. BENSON'S WANTS TO DONATE THESE MACHINES. I MEAN, IT WAS JUST A TIMELY, UH, GIFT. YOU KNOW, IT WAS AMAZING THAT SHE HAD THE INSIGHT TO BE ABLE TO SAY, THIS IS SO IMPORTANT. THESE MACHINES ARE REALLY GONNA HELP US BECAUSE WE'VE GOT SOME PLAYGROUNDS WITH LARGER FOOTPRINTS, AND, UH, WE'RE GONNA NOW BE ABLE TO DEPLOY MORE MACHINES ON OUR LARGER PLAYGROUNDS. THE DEVICES WE HAVE, YOU KNOW, THEY'RE, MOST OF THEM RIGHT NOW ARE IN THE GYMS, SO THESE NEW DEVICES ARE GONNA BE DEPLOYED IN CONCESSION STANDS. THEY'RE GONNA BE DEPLOYED IN RESTROOM FACILITIES CLOSER TO THE ACTION. AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION RECOMMENDS A WHAT'S CALLED A THREE MINUTE DROP TO SHOCK WHEN THE PATIENT DROPS. IF WE CAN GET THERAPY FROM AN A E D TO THE PATIENT IN THREE MINUTES OR LESS, WE GIVE THEM ABOUT THE 70% CHANCE OF SURVIVAL BEFORE THE FIRST KID COMES OUT, BEFORE A BALL IS THROWN. WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT THE PARTICIPANTS ARE SAFE AND THE PUBLIC IS SAFE. IT'S THE FIRST THING WE NEED TO DO AS A RECREATION DEPARTMENT, IS MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE PREPARED FOR EVERYTHING. THESE A D MACHINES ARE GONNA DO THAT. * This transcript was created by voice-to-text technology.
